The Supermarket Street Sweep is an annual bike race that benefits the San Francisco Food Bank! For the past six years, hundreds of participants have zipped around the city to local supermarkets and brought back thousands of pounds of food to donate to this wonderful charity.
SMSW stats:
2006: 80 racers - 1,172 lbs of food
2007: 110 racers - 1,595 lbs.
2008: 150 racers - 5,266 lbs.
2009: 198 racers - 7,507 lbs.
2010: 171 racers - 6,920 lbs. + $4,877
2011: 201 racers - 7,990 lbs. + $9,552
Total Meals To Date: 81,882
Race Details:
CARGO RACE: Bring back the heaviest load of food from the designated grocery stores.
SPEED RACE: Buy specific food items from the designated grocery stores and get to the finish as soon as possible.
DOLLARS FOR DINNERS: Raise money for the SF Food Bank. Every $1 you raise provides 4 meals for those in need.
WHAT TO BRING: Bag, box or crate (whatever you rock to the grocery store), a lock and money to buy items (suggested $15-30, whatever is comfy, everything helps).
Both races end @ 4pm. The after party location is at The Sandbox Warehouse at 132 Missouri Street.
All items will be donated to the San Francisco Food Bank.

The participant releases the organizers of the 2012 Supermarket Street Sweep and their directors, sponsors, and agents from any liability for death, disability, injury and property damage. The participant acknowledges the risks involved with participating in the 2012 Supermarket Street Sweep, and assumes all responsibility, and waives any claims s/he may have against the organizers. The participant agrees to wear a helmet and obey the rules of the road, and to receive any medical treatment that may be necessary.

Dear All,
Thank you so much for signing up to participate in this year's Supermarket Street Sweep! The many families in need in the Bay Area, as well as the San Francisco and Marin Food Banks, will appreciate the food you'll be donating on Saturday.
The start of the race is at Cupid Span's sculpture (Bow & Arrow) at Embarcadero & Folsom.
We'll start checking you in at 10:45AM. You'll receive a spoke card, manifest (which details your shopping route and list), stickers and a water bottle. Ideally we'll get all of you on the road by noon! If it's raining, feel free to bring a small bag of clothing / towel that we can drop off at the after party spot for you. You'll be able to change there.
The end of the race is at 4PM sharp at the San Francisco Food Bank (900 Pennsylvania Avenue). If you arrive after 4PM, we'll have to disqualify you, so be on time! The Food Bank also officially closes at 4PM, so you'll have to enter / exit out of the small side gate after that.
The after party location is nearby at rideSFO / Sandbox, 132 Missouri Street. You can have (2) free beers from 21st Amendment; just show your spoke card and our volunteer will mark it each time. After that, beers are $1/each with proceeds going to the SF & Marin Food Banks. There will also be some free soft drinks and bottles of water, first come, first serve. An El Tonayense taco truck will be on site from 4-6PM (and can hang around longer if folks are still eating.) Tacos will be $1.75, burritos are $7.
Lastly, if you bring back extra food, you'll be entered into our raffle.
